The MaciTec Approach

Engineered first, then proven — on a real project.

Every project follows one principle: decide the right compensation setup by simulation and calculation before anything is installed — then confirm it on site by measurement. Here is a real example for a scanning electron microscope (SEM) with a target residual field of ≤ 50 nT.

How a project runs

01

Communication & Planning

We define your instrument, site and the exact goal together — here, a residual field of ≤ 50 nT and the target volume around the electron beam. This is the shared basis for everything that follows.

02

Engineering & 3D Simulation

Using MaciTec’s own 3D simulation and calculation software, the room is modelled and the coil setups compared — selecting the one that reaches the target across a real, usable volume, not just on paper.

03

Commissioning & Acceptance

On site: installation, controller calibration and before/after field measurements — documented in an acceptance report that confirms the target is reached in reality, exactly as simulated.

Example Project · SEM Microscope

Room-coil vs. frame-coil — decided in simulation, before anything is built.

For this project, the key question was which type of coil setup should be recommended to meet the required specification. Using MaciTec’s own calculation and simulation software, the different coil setups were compared and visualised — for the same room and the same ≤ 50 nT target. What matters is not only whether the target is met, but how large the region is in which it is met: a real instrument needs a usable volume, not a single point.

Room-coil setup

A usable region within spec.

The room-coil setup holds the residual field within the ≤ 50 nT target across a real volume around the instrument — a stable region the microscope can actually use.

Target met · ≈ 41 nT across a usable volume

Why the room-coil setup was chosen

The room-coil setup delivers a real region in which the specification is met — robust against the tolerances of a live installation. The frame-coil setup only reaches the target at a theoretical single point that practice almost never achieves. For this project, MaciTec therefore recommended the room-coil setup for realization: the decision is made on data, before installation — not discovered afterwards.
